Work In Progress Wednesday Number 27

In an amazing turn of events, I have actually been following my plan (which I made 2 weeks ago - this might be the longest I have ever stuck to a plan!), so the fuzzy ballet sweater has been making progress and my sock is also a little further along.

The sweater now has 2 finished fronts, which leaves the sleeves and the ties left to do. I have enough yarn to make the sleeves longer than elbow length, so I'm going to do that. Also, I decided to try doing the sleeves two at a time. I haven't converted the pattern into the round (that was just a little more maths than I care to do *laughs*) but because the yarn is so fine it is easy to get both on the same needle:

Just have to make sure I don't get too tangled ;) It's good practice for my next pair of socks though, as I want to try making them two at a time to avoid second sock syndrome!

Talking of socks, my super long sock now has a heel and a gusset, thanks to me having a sudden burst of sock motivation at the weekend. It seems that I have to be in the mood for socks, and this one has been languishing thanks to sock-burnout. Happy to say it seems to be back on track now though *smiles*

The book I am reading is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. While the film is actually really good, the book is so much better.

A few people asked last week what I thought of the book I posted, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake... Hmmmm. Well I certainly wouldn't recommend it to a friend, let's put it that way *laughs* I was very disappointed, it was such an interesting concept but all of the plot points that could have been great were glossed over, whereas the boring stuff just went on and on. The writing style was frustrating, and the plot just went all weird at the end (way beyond what I would expect from the initial concept). So yeah, not recommended!

As ever, you know where to go for more works in progress and yarn along posts ;)

  1. I read The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake too and had pretty much the same reaction. There were so many good/interesting directions the author could have gone...I found the ending just weird, like it had almost nothing to do with the rest of the story. Anyway, good luck with those socks!

  2. I really enjoy hearing about your reading as well. Since I started crafting, my book-list has reduced to almost nothing, and I really miss curling up with a good book.

I'm fascinated by your doing the sleeves two at a time. Do you have to cut them apart when you're done? As a knitting novice, it seems like magic to me!

  4. I have become addicted to socks and find I want to knit them all day long!
I just watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest! How funny. I honestly didn't know there was a book [oh, the shame], but now that I do I would love to read it.
oh, and I love the yarn for your sweater!

  9. You're juggling a lot, but it IS so good to get moving on projects. I'm on a roll this week too --but I keep starting new ones as well, so my basket is never empty.

  11. Books usually do turn out way better than the films.
Can't wait to see the ballet sweater.

  13. I just finished the Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. I liked the whole idea of tasting emotions in food, but, like you, found the book overall disappointing. This week I'm reading The Sisters Brothers which I am loving and heartily recommend.

    Love the very long sock!

  15. Hmmm.. I just started that book. I am going to stop. I wasn't loving it, but I have his thing about finishing books. Forget it! Love the handknits - such pretty yarn.

  16. I totally get second sock syndrome...but with everything. I can't stand making things twice. I've got a book on my amazon wishlist on how to make socks 2 at a time. That should help me make a pair :)

  17. I like the multitasking on two sleeves at once :) (I can't manage to knit one yet lol)

  22. I tried reading "One Flew..." in high school but I couldn't get into it. I'll try again now that I"m older.

I still haven't seen the movie.

  24. I love that book so much - and yes, love the film as well but the book is more subtle...

Thank you so much for the guest post by the way, it will be live tomorrow!

  25. Thanks for stopping by! You are flying along, really look forward to seeing your projects all done. Two sleeves at a time, two socks at a time seems a brilliant idea to me. Beautiful knitting too : )

  26. The fuzzy ballet sweater looks great so far. Do you dance? Or is it just the look of a ballet sweater? I really like the color of those extra long socks!

  27. I can't believe I've never read that book, though I've seen the movie many times. Now I'll have to check it out.

That fuzzy yarn looks like it's going to be fun to wear!

  28. You're definitely past the halfway point on the ballet sweater -- I hope the rest of it just flies by. Most of my "plans" only work for about a week, so I'm impressed with your perseverance!

  29. Sock looks great :) I get serious second sock syndrome and find I too have to be in the sock mood. Once I am they positively trot off the needles.

  30. I love how you are knitting both sleeves at the same time. I always fly through the first sleeve but take forever to finish the second.

  31. I also like the way your knitting both sleeves at once. Looking forward to seeing your finish.

The title of last week's book sounded so promising. Duane gave me One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest awhile back. Need to find it and read it one of these days.

  32. it's been so long since i've seen that movie, and i've never read the book either. good for you staying on your projects!

  33. Projects are looking great, that is one long sock indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  34. That sure is one long sock - I hope it is the second one. We always did sleeves two at once - makes for ensuring they end up the same length without endlessly counting rows.
Enjoy the knitting and the reading - too fun.

That cardi is going to be amazing - kind of hoping to see it TODAY!!! :)
