I decided that I would knit a hat for the boyfriend for Christmas. Now, as he reads this blog daily you may wonder why I am ruining the surprise...
Well, have you ever tried to surreptitiously measure someone's head while they are asleep? *laughs*
In the end, I measured his (awake) head and showed him the selected yarn, just to make sure he was happy with it. So, instead of a Christmas gift, it'll just be a non-surprise, hey it's getting cold out gift ;)
I did buy new yarn for it, because nothing in my stash was suitable. So I took the opportunity to buy something I want to knit with and have heard good things about:
Malabrigo Worsted. Pure Merino; so very, very soft and lovely *grins*
So, boyfriend will be getting a very luxurious hat. But as he has only ever received one knitted thing from me, and patiently watches as I knit for myself without grumbling, I think he deserves it!
I think he proved himself knitworthy with his reaction to the socks, so I'm sure the Malabrigo wont be wasted on him. Gorgeous colour you've picked!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! And who would pass at a chance to knit with malabrigo? I just made socks with their...sock yarn...and they were fantastic. I literally could not put them down!
ReplyDeleteI think full disclosure is the best way to go with hand knits. The gift is all the more appreciated when it fits and is in a yarn the recipient picked out. He'll love the malabrigo.
ReplyDeleteThe yarn you chose is perfect for a hat!! I made one for my daughter and it is so soft :)
ReplyDeleteI am knitting a hat for my husband with the exact same yarn, in what looks like the same color! He's been watching me do it, so it won't be much of a surprise either. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've broken the rule about knitting for your boyfriend. Shame.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe you don't know the rule...
The rule is: unless you've married him, you don't knit for him. This is usually in reference to sweaters because by the time you finish it, you've broken up with said boyfriend.
But, I made my now-husband a scarf when we were still dating...but I had a ring on my finger so I figured I was safe.

Based on his reaction to the socks I knitted for him, I think I'm safe ;)
I had heard the rule, and I certainly have no plans to knit him a sweater (he doesn't want one anyway), but he's definitely one of the most knitworthy people I know and he definitely deserves it!
Ooooh, gorgeous yarn. I have not tried any malabrigo but have heard lots about it so am looking forward to hearing your verdict.
ReplyDeleteIf he reacts the same way he did when you knitted him his socks, then he so deserves it!
ReplyDeleteNice! My husband loved the cowl I made him, it's just a pity it's not cold enough for him to wear it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the same thing! My husbands "Christmas" present turned into a "It's cold out" present, because I needed him to pick the pattern or he wouldn't wear it. I'm posting it on my FO this Friday! I think your yarn looks divine!
ReplyDeleteI usually tell my BF about what I'm making too. That way I can get his input so he'll actually wear the finished item :).
ReplyDeleteMmm, that yarn looks yummy. You think sneakily measuring heads is difficult? You want to try measuring hands! Hmm maybe I could get hubby to do that drawing around your hands thing with the boys.....
ReplyDeleteAt least you know your partner is going to like his non-surprise.
xx
Surprise isn't nearly as important as making something you know the recipient will love - I'm making the kids hats for St. Nicholas' Day and while they know they don't get them till Dec. 6, they're all excited because they got to pick out the colors. Sometimes I think gifts are even better when they're not surprises!
ReplyDeletethat's cute, I just knitted my boyfriend a striped blue and red scarf. They actually love the knitted stuff, it's cute :)
