Well, I actually stuck to the plan I made last week *pauses for the amazement to die down* ;)
I have finished the Hitchhiker, just trying to decide now whether or not I want to block it. I love it and will be showing it off just as soon as I have determined it is 100% finished.
I am finally at the point where I can start the heel on my sock, after knitting it (as planned) on the train to and from visiting mum. It seems to have taken ages, and I have been cursing the day I decided to make it as long as I did *laughs* But I'll be happy I did once it is finished, I'm sure. I'm still loving the yarn, which is the one I dyed myself using Kool Aid. Once I start buying yarn again, I will definitely be dyeing some more, it's so much fun ;)
And, as planned, (seriously, I am amazed that I have stuck to a plan for an entire week - this is unheard of!) I have been giving some attention to my fuzzy ballet sweater:
It doesn't look like it's that much longer than last week, but as this is the front and I'm on the decreases, it should go pretty quickly from here. Then it's just sleeves (3/4 length so they shouldn't take long) and the ties. Hopefully I can get this off the needles fairly soon. Of course, the Christmas knitting does take priority at the moment, so it'll be longer than it might ordinarily take!
The book I'm reading is The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, about a girl who can taste the cook's emotions in the food she eats. I have been intrigued by it since it was first published and have finally got around to starting it. Not sure what I think yet, as I'm not far into it... I like the concept but I'm not sure I am enjoying the writing style.
As ever, you know where to go for more works in progress and yarn along posts ;)
Ooh - I've not seen the Particular sadness of lemon cake, but heard so much about it. That theme of tasting emotions in food reminds me of Like water for chocolate and another book I read lately called Garden spells where the food is infused with magic! It was very sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love long socks, but don't have the patience to knit them, so good for you! That book certainly sounds interesting -- hope it gets better for you.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your scarf!! And I love the you dyed yarn with kool-aid!! I remember using it to dye my hair back in fifth grade....oh the good old days!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love visiting here and seeing what you are reading! You always find the most interesting books and now I can't wait to read this one.
ReplyDeleteHooray on sticking to your plan; the sock looks super!
xx
They BOTH look so beautiful! I love the long socks - the colours are beautiful and the fuzzy sweater looks yum! I don't know what it is about your knitting but I always find myself wanting to see them finished NOW! and I don't feel like that about many things, and I also wouldn't usually go for the colours you use but they just always look so gorgeous - maybe I have a secret longing for orange!
ReplyDeleteIt's always surprising when you actually get to cross things off your list, isn't it? Very satisfying though!
ReplyDeleteI love your sock and the colours - is it knee high? I've heard a lot about dyeing with KoolAid, but didn't know it could produce something so pretty.
Yay for sticking with your plan! I also have the best intentions but I am not strong enough to stick with them. Your dyed wool is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think I've probably said this before, but I really like how your hand-dyed yarn is knitting up. Beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds interesting; I'll have to look it up. Your hand-dyed yarn is awesome. I just love the way it seems to alternate between one semi-solid orange stripe and then one or two multi-colour stripes. Cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the socks, great job dyeing the yarn yourself! I've read that book--it is very odd! I wasn't sure how I felt about it when it was over...........
ReplyDeleteall your projects are looking fab!! well done for sticking to a plan!! i know how hard it is lol xx
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great! I can't believe you dyed that yarn with Kool Aid. The colors are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think a book's title is more interesting than the book itself. Perhaps it'll improve as you read on? Love the fuzzy ballet sweater and the color of the socks. Yeah for not veering off the path this week.
ReplyDeleteYay for Kool Aid dyed yarn. That is awesome! Can't wait to see the sweater when you're done.
ReplyDeleteI read that book and liked it but not as much as everyone else I know. For me I think I had trouble with the fact that I felt the author was trying to jump on The Time Traveler's Wife bandwagon with a "gimmick."
ReplyDeleteYour projects are lovely! That fuzzy yarn I bet is a challenge if you want to take a stitch out. I try to keep socks close to 7-8 inches when it is stockinette....boring!! Love the sock colorway.
ReplyDeleteYour sock looks great. I just love the fuzzy ballet sweater, I want to pet it.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to hear more about the writing style of that book. The writing style of a book can make me stop reading in a hurry. I don't like shallow writing with card board characters.
I want to pet that fuzzy ballet sweater. Also, that was a similar plot device in "Like Water for Chocolate," a book i just couldn't get into.
ReplyDeleteI love fuzzy yarn and you reminded me that I need to do some koolaid dyeing. I have had a bag of koolaid packets with 4 skeins of yarn waiting and the kids will no doubt soon try to steal one to see why I wont let them drink it lol. Can't wait to see your Christmas projects. If you have any your already working on maybe you want to link them to my handmade Christmas craft along on Thursdays..wink, wink
ReplyDeleteYour sock looks great! I love the colors, and one of these days I want to try dying yarn myself :) Your ballet sweater looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the hitchhike in all of its glory
Everything looks great! Wow, that is a long sock!
ReplyDeleteI like my socks long. Don't get Second Sock Syndrome (or is this the second sock?). Once you get past the heel you probably will soar right through. What a great title for a book. Interesting concept. I will look forward to your final review.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been so productive this week.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours of the socks, so lovely :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colourways! x
ReplyDeleteooh those colourways are gorgeous - I love your socks, how do you have the patience to finish? and your fuzzy jumper looks really cute - i am excited to see that done xx
ReplyDeleteThe sock colours are great. Hehe I am fine with knitting kiddy socks, but grown men ones take me forever. All that knitting round and round and round..........
ReplyDeletexx
Love your projects! I couldn't knit socks that long. I just don't have the patience for it.
ReplyDeleteI have heard about Particular sadness of lemon cake and that the writing style has annoyed other readers. I still like the idea behind the story, so I am going to try and find a copy.
Your projects are looking super. Looking forward to hearing what you think of the book
ReplyDeletegood for you, sticking to your plan. As always, beautiful knitting and colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this "following a plan" you speak of? I do not comprehend. =)
ReplyDeleteAlso looking forward to seeing what you think of the book.
I started Lemon Cake a while back and couldn't get into the writing style either. I found the premise interesting, but honestly couldn't get past the writing. Let me know how you feel when it finishes up!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in the sock :)
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the WIPs there, I love that long socks!
ReplyDeleteI love your sock! The stripes are awesome. The thing I love about winter, is wearing my long stripy socks again, along with my knee high boots! Can't wait to see the hitchhiker :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog today! You have several things going - amazing, and good for you!
ReplyDeleteLove the Fuzzy :)
ReplyDeleteKool Aid dying is so much fun!!! Yours looks great. I refuse to make long socks. Cursing would be the least of my concerns at that point.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of your sock! Dyeing with koolaid looks like a lot of fun. Good job sticking to your plan.
ReplyDeleteYour sock is so pretty -- isn't dyeing yarn yourself fun?
ReplyDeleteThe book you mentioned reminded me of one that I loved, but I couldn't remember the title -- then I read it in the first comment! Yes, GARDEN SPELLS and other books by Sarah Addison Allen -- kind of a gentle magical realism to her style.
such lovely knitting, good for you staying with your project!
ReplyDeleteI love hwne I actually stick to my crazy plans. I had had that book on my list for awhile. Off to put it on hold at the library!
