Simple Pleasures

I got up this morning and the weather is grey and miserable and I had nothing particularly exciting to blog about...

So I decided to be positive and think about the simple pleasures that counteract the grey *smiles*

Like the fact that cooler (or, more accurately, downright cold) weather means I can wear more of the things I have knitted ;) The fact that I can make things that keep me warm, just by using a couple of needles and some yarn still amazes me sometimes *laughs*

The pleasure of a simple but tasty dinner last night. It was only pork chops with little roasted potatoes and fine beans, but everything tasted just right and it was warming and filling and just generally satisfying ;)

Having a meeting this morning that meant I didn't have to get up as early as usual and could enjoy waking slowly and luxuriating in Egyptian cotton sheets.

Talking of sensory luxury, the sensation of knitting with really gorgeous yarn that slips through my fingers like butter... The heated seats in boyfriend's car on a really cold morning... The gingerbread oil burner I always get out at this time of year, that makes my house smell like baking.

Blogging from my phone, having finally got round to downloading the blogger app. I saw a picture online recently that had a photo of a cassette tape and a pencil, with a caption that said "your children will never know the relationship between these 2 items". It made me laugh but also made me realise just how much technology has changed in such a short space of time. I remember my dad having a car phone the size of a small suitcase and now I'm posting to my blog on the move. Pretty amazing really.

And for a shot of colour to finish brightening up my morning...

So, tell me, what are some of your simple pleasures?

  1. Thanks for this, it has really brightened my day!

  2. Lovely post, and just what I needed this morning - it's grey and miserable here. I should not have to put my daylight lamp on before 9.30!

The poster caption definitely made me blink. It hadn't even occurred to me that my best friend's baby will never know what a tape is. He's 14 months and already knows how to use a computer mouse. Scary!

  3. A cup of hot tea and some knitting while looking at a clean kitchen :)

  4. My simple pleasure may be the fact that it's still warm enough here to sit outside and knit while people-watching!

  5. Those sound like some lovely things to be enjoying on a grey day. My simple pleasure right now is that even though my boyfriend is having another period of bad insomnia, he always lays down with me when I go to bed and stays until I fall asleep.

  6. Coffee in the morning. I just never, ever get tired of it. I always want it, and I always have it, and isn't that a wonder in what my daughter once called "a fallen, whiney world"? I've always thought that the superfluous pleasures - the things we enjoy but don't need - show the generosity of God almost better than the big, huge gifts. I mean, they don't, really, and life and health are greater gifts than coffee, but . . . there didn't have to be coffee in the world, but there is. Superfluity of goodness, is all I'm saying.

(Sometimes it feels like there's a superfluity of evil too, but that's not what this post is about, so I'm shutting up now. :) )

  7. Simple pleasures?
My littlest girlie wrapping her arms around me and squeezing tight as she wakes up next to me.
Going downstairs to a roaring fire and a cup of hot lemon and honey all readied by the man waking up an hour earlier in the freezing cold.
The veg box delivery and the anticipation of what is in the boxes.
The knock on the door of the postman bringing lovely parcels of yarn.
Walking to the local shop and bumping into my biggest girl and her own girlie.
    Oh I could go on and on....but I won't ;)

  8. One of my simple pleasures is a pot of chai tea and honey in the mornings :-) I've just passed on an award to you (you don't have to do anything with it... up to you!) http://happywhimsicalhearts.blogspot.com/2011/11/lucky-week.html

    Warm wishes, Kelly

  9. A package arrived this morning from Canada. What a joy! It really made my day.
    No, my week!

  10. One of my simple pleasures is visiting my blog friends all over the world and seeing what they're enjoying. Almost always my mood will be lifted.

Hi, thanks for letting me know you stopped by :D
