Work In Progress Wednesday Number 30

I have a very blue work in progress picture today *laughs*

I've been working on boyfriend's hat, as I mentioned on Monday. However, although I said I was using the pattern "A Hat fit for a Boyfriend", I realised that I had done everything in 2x2 rib rather than the 3x2 in the pattern. So I'll have to figure out the appropriate decreases somehow ;)

And then I have to remind myself that I am knitting it for boyfriend, and even though it matches my cardigan perfectly, it is not for me!

Cria now has pockets (which I tried to take a picture of but that didn't go so well, so you'll just have to trust me!) And I am about halfway down the first sleeve. I'm pretty impressed with the continued progress of this, and I'm hoping the motivation holds out!

But then I realised just how close it now is to Christmas, so I have a feeling that progress on bloggable projects will slow as I work on getting the secret ones done in time *tries not to panic*

Bookwise, I got bored of last week's book and I'd seen someone else on yarn along reading one of Philip Pulman's His Dark Materials trilogy. I love these books so I picked up the first one and have been reading so much that I am now halfway through the third book *laughs* This of course doesn't do much for my knitting productivity, but never mind ;) it's always a balance, isn't it?!

  3. I love the colour you are working with, it looks so beautiful in the picture it must be even better in person. I agree with Tink, borrow the decreases from another pattern for a 2x2 rib hat.

  4. I am sure that would fit you MUCH better!!!!!! ;)

And I just LOVE those books - I re-read all 3 in about 2 days of our honeymoon (poor DH!!!)..... and then he read them all too!!! Until I started the George RR Martin books, I'd have said this was my favourite set of books, (followed by the Tales of The Otori) but Martin has overtaken Pullman for me now. I am going to try to hold off reading the 5th one for as long as I can as the next one isn't published yet.

  5. I know what you mean about not being able to post images of Christmas projects...there are always lots of quiet readers who don't comment but you know are out there...but it sounds like you'v egot a lot done...

    Enjoy your reading...

  6. It's amazing how quick that holiday sneaks up every year. One of my FO's I have to share Friday my hubby tried to steal from me! He tried it on and I got, "Hmm, I kind of like this" so I suppose it'll become his or I'll have to do another!

  7. It IS a drag not being able to post Christmas gifts. I've thought about just taking a picture of a knitted blob, but that really defeats the purpose, doesn't it?? Love that blue color!

  8. Love the blues. Now I know I'm ok posting gift projects because no-one reads my blog!

  9. I'm not much of a blue person, but that blue is pretty.

I'm currently reading The Help. The movie comes out on DVD next week, so trying to hurry and finish so I can watch the movie.

  10. Gorgeous blue in that hat ... I'm not sure whether I'd give it away or not. Don't panic (yet)! It's still November! At least that's what I'm telling myself.

  11. I love seeing all the blue! Your sweater and the hat look great!

  12. Hmm, the hat matching your sweater? I think you might have done that on purpose. At least when you are out and about you two will match! Secret knitting is fun :)

  13. I have a lot of elf knitting happening here that I can't show either.
Did you check Ravelry for a similar hat pattern that you could get the decreases from? I am having to do that with my newest hat as I forgot how to count and refuse to rip out!

  14. Loving that blue! I am sure your boyfriend will love it. Oh secret projects-so exciting. ;) I will probably have to do some sneaky posting and knitting too.

  15. They really do match don't they? Are they the same yarn? Oh well, if you don't mind the whole Brady Bunch stigma, you can wear them together and match lol. thanks for sharing and I always look forward to your comment on wednesdays.

  16. Well at least you'll have lots of things to post AFTER Christmas then ;) You can always just post your book and a glimpse of the yarn ;)

  17. Don't panic! I think everyone's blogging is going to be sporadic through december as we craft like crazy. I'm thinking of doing mine in code, so I can talk about them without talking about them ;)

Good luck with your decreases - it's so pesky when that happens. And Cria is looking fab - they always look better once the arms are started, I think. Much more like an actual garment!

  18. I love that dark blue yarn!

I bet there are other 2x2 rib hats that you could pull up and see how they work decreases. That should at least help you modify things for your exact stitch count.

  19. Pullman's books are so fantastic! Don't bother with the movie though, it was so disappointing. : (

Also, that hat looks perfect for a guy! I've always found it difficult to knit for men, so I'm impressed!

  20. Maybe your boyfriend will let you borrow the hat :) It looks great! I know what you mean...it's hard to find ample time for both knitting and reading!

  21. UGH Christmas gifts. I have great gift ideas but let's just see if motivation holds out to do them. I have yet to gather all the needed materials.

  22. Lovely colours in your projects. A new cardi just for you is the perfect Christmas gift surely.
Enjoy the projects and the reading.

  23. I loved His Dark Materials, though Phillip Pullman is partially responsible for some of my bizarre ideas and theories now.

  24. Ohhhh....love book series! I hate when I find a book that I love, and then there is only one, LOL :) I will have to check this one out - haven't heard of Phillip Pullman...hmmm...

All your WIPs are looking beautiful - great color blue!!

  25. This is the perfect time to be knitting hats! :D I think I'm lucky that no one on my gift list reads my blog, lol. I can blog about whatever I like :) I love His Dark Materials too!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, it's hard to blog when you are being stealth about the holiday gifts. Thanks for the heads up on the books. I am always looking for another good book/series to read.

  27. Trying not to panic is always a difficult thing. I can't believe that tomorrow is Dec 1st! The ribbed hat looks nice even if you followed another pattern. :)

  28. audiobooks audiobooks audiobooks! I don't actually 'read' anymore, far too inefficient. I'd much rather crochet/knit AND listen to someone read for me :D

Blue is always good, good luck with the decreases!

  29. The hat looks good! I hear you about the Christmas gifts though, I wasn't planning on making much this year, but with the job situation it's probably the easiest, cheapest - and it'll keep me sane y'know?

I really need to check out the Dark Materials series. I've heard some really good things about it, and I keep meaning to, and then I'm distracted by another book and promptly forget :P

  30. I'm totally panicing! Somehow it always gets done though. Great colors, can't wait to see the finished projects!

  31. Go ahead and give him the hat... just think how great the two of you will look together while you wear your sweater!

    Blessings, Debbie
