Work In Progress Wednesday Number 16

Another Wednesday, another Work in Progress/Yarn Along mash-up *grins*

I'm reading a new book, having finished a couple of others this week, so I'm pleased to say that my aim of finding a little more balance between knitting and reading seems to be paying off. Partly motivated, I think, because I don't want to take a picture of the same book 2 weeks in a row for the yarn along *laughs*

Knitting-wise, as you can just about see above, the blanket is on the next cream section, my sock is nearing the end of the gusset decreases, Cria has been separated for the sleeves

I'm quite enjoying watching the way the yarn I dyed knits up, especially at points where the stitch count is different than the rest of the sock. For example, the interesting pink and purple pattern at the top of the foot, and the almost rainbow on the bottom of the heel:

I'm heading to see my mum at the weekend, so I'm looking forward to a couple of hours of in-car knitting each way. Boyfriend is happier that I will be taking the magic loop rather than the DPNs for this purpose (he was, justifiably I think, a little nervous of me knitting on tiny, very pointy needles, while in the car!)

For more Wednesday craftiness, you can find Ginny's Yarn Along here, and Tami's WIP Wednesdays, here.

  1. The positive thing about having so many WIP's is that you are never bored and can always knit what takes your fancy. The bummer is that you never feel like you are getting much further.

As for me the bummer about only having one WIP is that I have to finish it before starting something else, even if I am bored with it.

  8. Love the colors of those socks. You dyed the yarn for that? Do you do a lot of dyeing? Also...good work on the blanket. I looked back at a few other posts and see that it looks like a log cabin square. Lovely.

  11. I try to get through at least one book a week, too...for the very same reason ;-). Love the colours of your blanket! I really want to learn magic loop, because I loathe working with dpn...but, the tutorials I've seen make it look just as tedious in a different way. Maybe over time one or the other will come to me.

  14. The worst thing about knitting on dpns in the car is when you drop one and it rolls beneath the seat :) That takes some acrobatics to recover!

Your hand-dyed yarn is looking great on that sock.

  15. I love the hand dyed yarn on the sock! I agree with Stitches above... my biggest fear about knitting on DPN's in the car is losing one!

  16. I agree about losing DPNs...I was going to do some needlework on a plane, and I sat down, pulled out my needle and promptly dropped it. It was nowhere to be found, so I had to read the stupid in-flight magazine the rest of the way. =( Now I take magic loop socks and knit my face off the whole way!

I love your hand-dyed yarn, too! How fun to see how the colors are coming out!

Good for you with all those WIPs. You can't get bored; this week I'm trying for project monogamy ... that'll be over soon ... LOL!!!!

  21. I am trying to read with my Nook while knitting, but the lap just doesn't balance very well!! Everything looks great.

  22. Busy knitting, huh? Love your WIPs.

  23. Love all your projects. I like the way the color progress to rainbow on the heel too. I try to read for an hour before I go to bed, to make myself sleepy and settle my brain down for the night.

  24. Looks like your projects are knitting up a storm, although maybe you could learn to knit and read at the same time, that would be some talent lol! x

I love both of the sets of socks, and put me on the "OMG YOUR HAND-DYED YARN <3" list. It looks fantastic.
