Yay - first WIP Wednesday of the year (for me, who missed the actual first one, anyway *laughs*) And all projects are new and shiny, apart from one.
So, the project that is a cross over from last year - Noro Socks of Frustration (and Potential Disappointment)...
I actually haven't taken a new picture, because they are at a stage where it is really hard to get a good photo of them - halfway up the leg on 2 at a time socks makes for difficult photography! They're coming along, I don't like working on them and I don't know if I'll like wearing them, but the colours are nice *laughs*
To sate my sock cravings, last night I cast on for a new sock (only 1 at a time, this might be dangerous). I started it in the yarn Sarah gave me, and the pattern didn't show off the yarn to its best. But I wanted to knit this pattern, so I grabbed some sock yarn that has been waiting aaaaaages:
It's not easy to get a picture of the pattern at this stage, being that I have only done 2 repeats, but these are the V Junkie pattern from Socktopus.
Just before Christmas I started on Berwick, and now I'm just past the front pocket:
I love the brioche rib at the bottom of the pattern, it's so squishy. But I am slightly disappointed with my yarn - I can't seem to keep an even tension at all (as you can see from the picture). It's acrylic yarn - Caron Simply Soft - so I can't block it like normal. Hopefully a quick steam block will even it up a bit!
And last, but absolutely, most certainly not least - my How I Wonder shawl:
The pattern is Celestarium, and it is a circular shawl with beads depicting the constellations in the Northern Hemisphere (the designer is planning a Southern Hemisphere version too).
I am so in love with this shawl. I'm even starting to recognise constellations. Look, Cassiopeia
I have no idea how I would wear this (or even if I will wear it) once it is done, but I am knitting the night sky and it makes me seriously happy *laughs*
As ever, if you want more lovely knitting and yarn along content, head to Tami's and Ginny's *smiles*
Knitting the night sky, now that is something that I would love to do! Great projects!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great but I love your shawl. The beads are fantastic!
ReplyDeletelove the circular shawl!!! I was contemplating a knit with beads, but it is still a thought in my head. Maybe one day.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love all your projects, they are so beautiful!
ReplyDeletegreat knits---but especially the night sky shawl! can't wait to see that one!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of all your beautiful knitting projects. Personally I love the colorful socks, they just scream "happy" to me. The shawl is going to be a real stunner, what a neat idea to add the constellations.
ReplyDeletethe shawl with the stars is amazing! what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteand keep knitting those socks! - they have beautiful colors in them :) I've finished my first pair of knitted socks ever and I love them so much :D - I've knitted one at a time and the second one took much longer - I've lost the enthusiasm - but now when I can finally wear them I'm happy I finished both of them - so keep knitting :)
So many beautiful WIPS! I love your shawl. The beads make it!
ReplyDeleteSo many great projects! I love them all, but that shawl is too awesome. How big will it be when done? You could use it has a lap throw, and be able to see the stars no matter the weather!
ReplyDeleteI've been forced to queue the shawl and I'm not even sure I want to knit a circular shawl, but you make me want it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally get the sock dilemma. I've been there myself recently! Hate the yarn, don't want to work on it, but can't bring myself to take them to the frog pond... UGH! Hope they work out in the end!
Oh you are knitting Celestarium?! I cannot wait to start my own and I'll enjoy watching your progress! You also have some very colorful socks going right now, how fun!
ReplyDeletesometimes it's satisfying to knit something beautiful even if you don't know what will happen after you're done :) lovely projects!
ReplyDeleteLots of nice projects and I like the yarn you are using for your Socktupus socks. Your celestial shawl is great - nice choice of color this project and the beads are so cool!

ReplyDeleteKnitting the night sky looks like a lot of sparkling fun. I imagine the beads give it some weight.
ReplyDeletePretty colours in your socks.
The shawl is going to be AMAZING!!!! And I'm happy to have another of your WIPs to stalk for the new year :D
