Intermission

Sometime last week I looked at my WIP pile and was completely uninspired. I wanted to knit, but I didn't want to knit anything that I was already working on. I still want to complete them all, I just wasn't in the mood for them last week...

So I had a brief crafting intermission. I did some spinning, I dyed some yarn, and I cast on 2 new projects. And it felt wonderful. Instead of telling myself I should finish the projects already in progress, I shrugged and told myself it was totally ok to knit something completely different. Which sounds obvious, but sometimes I need to remind myself *laughs*

The rusty coloured knitting on the left is actually already finished, it only took a few hours. I'll show it off on Friday, so more details then ;)

The sage green is going to be a lacey shrug, using yarn I bought while I was in Las Vegas. The yarn is Cascade Dolce, a beautifully soft blend of alpaca, silk and wool. It's been really lovely to knit with, and this project is almost finished too. I just have a few more rows of ribbing to do around the neck and it's done *grins* And the lace pattern came out perfectly.

These 2 projects have really been a nice break from what I was working on - 2 things in fingering weight and 2 things in acrylic... Soft, fluffy, bigger yarn has been a nice change!

As for the book - you may have noticed a bit of a theme in my book choices recently... I've always loved Dystopian fiction, and with the recent success of The Hunger Games, there's a lot of it about at the moment. This one is based on the premise that all the adults/anyone over 15 disappears. It kinda reminds me of a little known TV show called The Tribe.

I do go through phases with reading - I'll read loads of crime fiction and then move on to satirical stuff, then on to dystopia, and so on.

As ever, if you want more lovely knitting and reading content, head to Tami's and Ginny's *smiles*

  1. It is definitely good for the soul to start new projects sometimes, especially ones that can be completed quickly and give you a FO buzz.
    Both projects look great.

  2. Wow - go you!!!! I totally know what you mean about feeling uninspired. I spent an afternoon stuck under a sleeping girl and browsing Ravelry yesterday for the same reason :)

  3. I think we do sometimes put undue pressure on our knitting and forget that it's about enjoyment. Looks like it was a great idea to kick back and get back into enjoying your crafting, both those knits are lovely!

  9. Isn't is amazing how we sometimes let our hobby take control. I am glad you told your WIPs to sit while you cast on for something new.

  10. The lace pattern is gorgeous!!! And I recall my first time knitting with a beautiful, gifted luxury yarn. Before that, I was a novice knitter and always fearful of turning expensive yarn into something ugly, so I just bought acrylics. Oh, what a difference it made to knit with real fibers. I'm hooked now, and my stash of acrylics just sits and sits...

  13. I love Dolce, too! It seems like such an under-appreciated yarn, considering it is so luscious at such a reasonable price. I wonder why we don't see it more often?

  14. Yep sometimes you do need to tell yourself that it's ok; I need permission to let myself off things sometimes too, loopy eh! That lace pattern is so pretty, definately worth interrupting the WIPs for :)

  16. Good for you! I need to follow suit - I have about 5 projects that need to be finished, and I'm lackluster about them all. Can't wait to see the info about the reddish-rust project.

  30. Your words have stayed with me since I read them(yesterday)--I have been feeling the same way. I hadn't thought about casting on another project--I am overwhelmed with the ones in front me but it sounds like just what I need. It sure does sound like your knitting has been therapeutic. And your shrug looks wonderful knit with that wonderful wool.
