Stealth Mode*

After Wednesday's post, you might be expecting a final reveal of my fuzzy ballet sweater... Alas, after casting on and knitting a couple of rows of the first tie, I got bored and moved on to something else *laughs* So that one will have to wait a little while.

Never fear, I do have an FO to share though. During my recent finishing frenzy, I finished my Noro-ish Striped Scarf. It didn't get a reveal last week because I was too busy showing off my fair isle hat, so here it is:

I didn't use Noro, I'm just not a fan. I know it is an incredibly popular yarn but it just doesn't do it for me. But I had a ball of King Cole Riot in my stash, so I grabbed a second ball in a different colour to make the scarf. Although I did choose a second ball of what looked like a very different colour, they actually have a lot of the same shades so there is a lot of purple in the scarf. Luckily, I like purple ;)

However, as you can see from the top left of the picture above, there were some sections that were a little too similar in colour!

I mentioned while I was knitting this that it's final size was a little over 7 feet long. Which sounds huge (especially considering I'm only 5 foot tall!). But I wanted an extra long, skinny scarf. And it actually doesn't look crazily long when I'm wearing it:

I wanted to make it so that the loop at the front wasn't tight against my neck, partly so I can wear it as an accessory and partly because the yarn can be slightly itchy.

Details:
Pattern: Noro Striped Scarf.
Yarn: King Cole Riot. I planned to use 2 balls but that would have almost doubled the length! So I have just under half a ball of each colour left. So much for buying a second ball in order to remove the first from stash. Maybe a matching hat is on the cards ;)
Thoughts: The pattern is very easy and effective, but it is a lot of 1x1 ribbing. This was my zone-out-and-not-think-about-what-I'm-doing project *laughs*

It's Friday, you know what to do by now... Visit Tami'sNatural Suburbia and Wisdom Begins in Wonder. Have a great weekend

  6. Lovely scarf, I'm a fan of King Cole riot yarns, lovely to use and wear.

  7. I like the longer scarves. I wove one last fall where I did the same thing. I wouldn't use it as an "outdoor keep me warm" scarf but as a beautiful accessory. I like how your colors matched up.

  18. Lovely scarf. I've not tried knitting with Noro but I don't like the feel of it when I've had a squish in shops so don't think I ever will, shame as I do like the colours.

  19. Love the scarf. I've got one sitting in hibernation. The Noro had a knot that aburpting changed color. It was super frustrating. I really like the yarn you decided to use.

  21. Pretty colors, great job! (Maybe some of the scratchiness will disappear with washing and wearing and the yarn blooming a bit) It IS a ton of 1x1 ribbing!!!

  22. Beautiful scarf! The colors work together really well- pinks and purples are fabulous! The length is great- I usually find myself making mine at least 6 ft so they fit like yours (I am also a short person, lol).

  24. The length looks perfect - not too long at all. And the colours!!! wow, that must have been fun to work with. Beautiful.

  25. I love it! I have a noro striped scarf (also not made with noro) that is almost the exact color as yours =)

  26. Fabulous! I'm a huge fan of King Cole Riot (although I agree about the itchiness sometimes), and the colourways look so good together.

A matching hat sounds like a perfect plan, as long as there's enough yarn. Otherwise it could be the stashbusting project that just keeps on growing!

  27. I do really like the scarf, but I was expecting to see your sweater. :-)

I really like the color variance of your scarf...gorgeous!

  28. Lovely stripes! The color combination worked out really well.

  29. It looks great! I think the color combo looks great, even when the colors are close matches.

  30. That looks fabulous on you! I am also a fan of longer scarves. The colors look great together.

  31. I've been a bit shy of Noro, too. I do have a skein of Noro sock something or other that I bought to "try" and if I hate it, it can go away. I know plenty of people that just love it...

  32. Your scarf looks like a perfect length, great colors too!

  33. I love knitting that scarf! Great colors ;)

  34. I like purple, too, so I really love the colors of your scarf! It is a great length and looks wonderful worn loosely around the neck.

  35. Everyone needs a mindless project. Yours turned out great!

  36. Awesome scarf! It's always amazing how something so simple can look so great. Love the colors.

  37. It looks great, love the way that pattern uses self striping yarns. And purple is great, never too much purple :)

  38. Honestly, I dislike Noro as well. I think the yarn substitution you made is perfect though. I looks great, congrats!
