Work In Progress Wednesday Number 41

As I mentioned yesterday, I spent the last week in Las Vegas *grins* Perhaps unsurprisingly, I didn't do a whole lot of knitting while I was there. In fact, I didn't pick up my needles at all (although I did buy some yarn) ;)

So this post is not a whole lot different to last week, although I did remember to take a picture this time!

So, the 2 socks on the needles - boyfriend's sock is still halfway through the cuff, and brother's is halfway through the toe (which would be more impressive if they were both cuff down, but his is toe up, so not much done!)

As I mentioned last week "I also cast on for a vest to go over a shirt, in my lovely 100% alpaca yarn that has been waiting patiently in stash for a while." - that's the purple in the middle. I'm cobbling together a variety of patterns for this one, as nothing fit quite what I wanted, so I'll make sure to write down what I do in case it works out well *smiles*

Shalom is at the waist shaping stage, so not too much more to do on the body:

Then I'm adding sleeves, and it will be done. I think this one should get some attention next, as it shouldn't take too much longer.

As for the book - I quite like Jodi Picoult books, although after reading one I can't pick up another of hers for at least 6 months or they all seem to blur into one. This one is pretty good so far. Last week I was reading the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy and a few people asked what I thought... The concept is seriously similar to the film Series 7: The Contenders, and clearly inspired by Battle Royale, so it's not quite as revolutionary as the author would have you believe (based on the interview in the back of the book!)

Having said that, I quite enjoyed it. The main character was somewhat annoying, and I would have liked more history of the world they were all living in - the premise of the games was a little weak to me. But overall, I still enjoyed it enough to read the next book (although I've heard that book 3 is pretty bad).

As ever, if you want more lovely knitting and reading content, head to Tami's and Ginny's *smiles* Also, I'm linked up at Keep Calm Crafting On again this week

  2. I saw your LV post and couldn't comment as I was on my phone - looks like you had an awesome time, although you were missed from Unravel!!!!!!

Agree entirely that you should get on with that Shalom now - I'm waiting to see it on a Friday, and am feeling a bit sorry for it - such a shame I don't take this same approach to my own languishing WIPs!!!! :D

Interesting to read what you said about Hunger Games - I've looked at it a few times now, and it does seem like too many films I've already seen *shrug*

    Have a fab week xxxx

  3. Lovely WIP's. I liked the Hunger Games, they are good fast reads. The third isn't as terrible as everyone would have to believe, at least it offers closure.

  4. Vegas, baby!!! One of my favorite places ever!!! Your knitting looks great and I never get much knitting done (other than on the plane) when we're there either!

  5. Shalom looks great! I love the color you're knitting your vest in.
I really enjoy the Jodi Picoult books too but have to be in the right mood or they can be depressing.

  6. I love Shalom, so pretty! I honestly can't remember which book was which with the hunger games books and I know I read them all but can't remember how it ended. I will have to reread the books I guess.

  7. I'm just about to start House Rules (when I find the time here of course). I'm behind the curve in reading the Hunger Games series too. I have the first one but haven't had a chance to start...argh! Shalom is coming along quite nicely as well!

  8. Oh wow! That sweater is going to be the prettiest thing ever, I really love your yarn choice. Please do take notes on it, Ravelry always needs more comments on the patterns.

  9. I have to agree, while I liked the the Hunger Games, the last book was not my favorite.
    The Shalom looks lovely.

  10. I have yet to knit the shalom, yours is looking so wonderful!

  11. I can usually only manage one pair of socks at a time or I start to confuse the mods and the stitch counts. Your shalom is coming along wonderfully. Sounds like a great time in Vegas if you didn't find time to pick up your needles. Did you win big? Or see some great shows?

  12. Yes, book 3 is a bit of a let down, but I would like to say just go for it anyways, because it is a series.
Still jealous of your Vegas trip, too bad you didn't get more done, but those sweaters will be awesome when you finally do :)

  13. Your Shalom is looking lovely. Not too much more to go! This was one of the first projects that I added to my favorites queue on Ravelry.

  14. I love the color of your new knitting project- that purple is one of my favorites. Shalom looks fabulous and I am sure you will be done soon.

I loved the Hunger Games series, but the third book is pretty weak. Definitely the first was the best of the lot.

  15. A lovely colour choice for your Shalom. Good idea to add sleeves. Need to do something to the sleeve hole on my as it ends up a bit gapey x

  16. Your shalom looks great. Do you have a pattern for adding the sleeves or are you just going to 'do' it your own way? I was thinking of making a second one, slightly larger, and adding sleeves, so I'd love to hear how you get on with yours.

    1. I'm using a few different people's notes from Ravelry, so when I have cobbled it all together I'll update my notes with what I did ;)

  17. I've been intrigued by all The Hunger Games buzz lately. It's not my usual type of book, but it does sound interesting!

  18. Shalom is looking fabulous!

I've got Hunger Games on my to-read list. When I first about it I thought it sounded like a mash up of Battle Royale and The Running Man. I keep hearing everyone rave about it, but I can't decide whether to Hunger Games next or go for the second Fire & Ice book. Too many books to read!

  20. I've never been a fan of Picoult's books - too sad! But I did love the hunger games. Your sweater looks amazing!

  21. Knitting looks good. Hope you had fun in Vegas. Never read a Picoult book. Which would you start with? I started the Hunger Games and was enjoying it but it gave me nightmares - unusual but it could have been something else. I'll wait for the movie - maybe.

  22. Thank you for your comment.
I liked the Hunger Games. For being Teen Lit! (I was also a fan of the Twilight series. ;)) From the looks of the previews, I'm not sure if I'll like the movie. :(
and wow, you are a super knitter!
Hope you had fun in Vegas (ah, I miss Vegas and my short time there.:D).

  23. I thought the same thing about the Hunger Games. I would have liked to know more about their past. How did the US get to that point? But she never seemed to answer that. And yes, the idea wasn't too original. It also reminded me of Stephen King's The Running Man.

  24. I know what you mean about Picoult! I love how detailed and interesting her novels are . . . but I only want to read about one a year!

  25. Oh I think I would knit the shalom if it had sleeves.... hmmm. Not a JP fan here either, probably just as well there are some writers I don't like, I can hardly keep up with the ones i do.
Loved seeing you Vegas trip post. So cool - and to be able to buy some of those yarns that we drool over every week would be bliss. xxx

  26. Wooo it is really looking like a sweater now!
Also I just remembered I had a dream about the Hunger Games which is bizarre because I know nothing about it and don't have any people in my life mentioning it. Weeiiirrd.

And I agree...I was iffy on The Hunger Games as well. I still have yet to read the rest of the series and I finished it about a year ago! :)
