So Very Orange

I finished my granny square blanket last night *smiles*

The colours remain impossible to photograph sensibly, but I'm pretty pleased with how it is looking. It used up 4 balls of stashed yarn that I had no idea what to do with, gave me a chance to practice a new technique and was kinda fun to make.

Plus, lots faster than a knitted blanket *laughs*

I haven't blocked it, so it looks a bit wonky, but it's a blanket and I'm ok with that ;)

Pattern: None. I made some granny squares in different configurations and then put them together until I liked how it looked ;)
Yarn: Random Sirdar acrylic from stash

It's only a small blanket, definitely more of a lap blanket really, but perfect for when I need a little bit of extra warmth. I made the squares on a larger hook than the yarn called for, so it's really light and traps lots of air.

For my first large (ish) crochet project, I'm really quite pleased with myself *grins*

  1. Did you say orange?

I love it. I've been working on some knitted squares from leftover handspun. One day they will become a blanket.

  2. Yay for crochet, I've been doing a bit of it myself. Addictive because as you say, it IS faster than knitting. Oh how I love instant gratification. Lap blankets are the best, well done.

  4. That was quick! I like to keep a little blanket like that in the car. It's amazing how many times we use ... for warmth, as a cushion, to wrap things... very handy!

  6. Cute :) I have to admit that I started knitting a blanket, then ended up frogging it and crocheting it instead - it was just taking far too long!

Love all the granny squares :). It's so good when a practice project also gives you something useful!

  12. Wow that is majorly orange. I can imagine just how bright it is in the flesh, as I have that Sirdar Orange in my stash too.

Don't worry about blocking, it's acrylic so the first time you run it through the washing machine/tumble dryer it'll straighten itself out.

  14. Nice Job! ... but I must say that as I sit hear in nearly 100F, a blanket is the last thing I want to see. ;-)

  15. I love this! Perhaps I will use this idea for the HUGE basket of yarn in blue and yellow that my aunt just gave me... Grannies are definitely classic, and I love how yours looks.

  16. Bet that was hard to work on at night without natural light. Congrats on getting it done. You can still block it, it will lay nicer; plus be softer. I'm always impressed how much one little washing and a bit of blocking can do with a crocheted afghan made of squares...even with acrylic yarn.

  20. Your blanket looks great! Is the color lighter IRL? That's certainly a blazing orange from where I'm sitting.
