I is for.... In the City

Little Red in the City to be precise *grins*

Ok, maybe it's cheating a little bit, but my book arrived at the weekend and I wanted to share ;)

I pre-ordered it when I saw a fantastic post on Ysolda's blog about what to expect from the book. As a result, despite having so few patterns, it became my must have purchase.

For those who don't know, the premise of the book is:

So it has sections on prep, techniques and patterns. The prep section is hugely informative, so I haven't really scratched the surface yet, but there is a lot of information on choosing a yarn for a project (very useful as I rarely use the recommended yarn) and how to make things actually fit.

There's a lot of maths for that last part *grimaces*

I hate maths. But it looks fairly simple, I hope, and making things fit well has got to be motivation enough to ignore my maths hatred ;)

It's a gorgeous book, with some gorgeous details, I love the "this book belongs to page", it feels like being a kid with a special book again *grins*

And I utterly adore the little bookmark/ruler tucked inside...

So cute :)

I can't wait to get stuck into this book properly. In fact I have already swatched for Cria, using the Jaeger Monte Cristo yarn that boyfriend's mum gave me. Just need to get my exact measurements before I start (and being patient is not fun for me!)

  1. I'm a bit jealous. I ordered the ebook but kinda wish I'd got the "real" thing

  2. I got my book this week as well. I don't want to knit anymore sweaters until I've read this properly, so I'm knitting shawl things to keep my hands busy while I work my way through it.

It is such a beautifully constructed book and I too bought the book on the back of the blog post that Ysolda wrote. I thought originally it was a bit steep for only a few patterns, but the technical stuff is so useful I bit the bullet and bought it. I'm so glad I did, if only to sit cooing over it and sighing "pretty" as I stroke the cover.

  4. I've been looking for a good book about sweater design. Cria is lovely, especially the buttons on the cuffs. I'll be adding it to my queue and purchasing the book as soon as I can.

  5. Thanks for the review. So many of my online friends have ordered this book. I haven't tried any Ysolda patterns. Sad but true.

  7. Oooh I hate maths too but I love hand knitted sweaters! Learn from my fail -- I made two sweaters from "More Big Girl Knits." I was careless with gauge and maths, and one is too small and one is too big! Luckily there is a lot of online help should I decide to try again!

Can't wait to see it progressing!

  11. Thanks for posting about the book. It's good to know what is available before you buy. I can't do the maths either.
