Noodly Appendage

I've been on a bit of a yarn buying kick at the moment - possibly to make up for the lack of knitting I've been doing (don't ask me how that logic works, it made sense in my head *laughs*)

I am actually saving a couple of purchases for their own posts, but I wanted to share this one right away...

It was half price in John Lewis, and I thought it looked pretty interesting. And it seemed like a nice, quick-fix to my lack of knitting time lately.

Essentially you use your hand as a knitting loom, churning out 4 stitch icord. Not quite as quick as the box says ("your own fashion accessory in minutes), but still pretty fast. I made a big pile of cord in a couple of hours...

Hmmm, that doesn't look like much. Here, have a picture with my hand in it for scale *laughs*

It's pretty chunky. Now, though, I have a long icord (or "noodle" as the box called it) and according to the instructions I need to sew it together in one of a number of ways, depending on whether I want a hat, scarf or snood.

Call me pedantic, but the box promised "knitting without needles", not "no needles until you need to sew it up, then you have about 8 meters of seaming to do" *sigh*

Who knows when this intestine will become an accessory! I'm glad it was half price (£6.49) as I wouldn't have been too thrilled if I'd paid full price for it. To be fair, the instructions are there on the box, I just hadn't read them ;)

  1. It looks like an interesting kit but I'm right there with you on the seaming:)

  2. It definitely looks like an intestine! I bet the advertising was hoping that no one would read the fine print, because that really doesn't sound like knitting without needles to me :/

  3. looks interesting, but all that seaming? no thanks.

I tried arm knitting once, which was quite interesting. And a lot less seaming.

If I wanted to seam something I would be sewing instead.

  5. That is a HUGE I-cord. Could you just sew the ends together and twist it round on itself a couple of times to make a cowl?

  6. Even though the instructions are misleading, that is pretty cool! I can't wait to see your final project.

  7. I think that's great - I'd be tempted to make something like a neck-piece with it by looping it around so that each round is a different length and then just sewing it up the back. :D

  9. Pls show how you will sew this together. I had taught my eldest before how to finger knit but I didn't know what to do w/all thos damn snakes so they ended up getting tossed.

  10. I have seen this box a few times, I am curious to see what you do with it :)

  11. I had a go at the same box and I LOVE my snood! All you need to do now is lay it out in equal lengths so snake it four or six times. Then get your left over wool and weave it between the same holes up and down the noodle. Lastly fold it round and weave in the same manner up the back of the snood. Hope this helps!!
