Before I move on to the usual work in progress stuff, I have a small favour to ask:
I'm taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt where we're trying to get 100,000 people to pledge to do a Random Act of Kindness before the end of 2012.
It will cost you nothing (apart from a little bit of kindness!) and I would love for you to help me with this.
All you need to do is click here and then pledge that you will do a Random Act of Kindness before the end of the year. This will not add you to an email list!
Please remember to enter my email on the form as your referrer, and email me if you have any questions. My email is nat DOT howells AT gmail DOT com
Thank you *grins*
Anyway, on to the crafting...
I'm not sure if it was a side effect of posting about my stash reduction progress, but I have cast on 2 new things *laughs*
This will be a cowl, using the softest, fluffiest yarn ever. I bought it in Calais, and have 3 balls of the teracotta colour, and 2 of the mustardy colour. Not really enough to do much with, so I thought a cowl with 5 stripes (one per ball) would be ideal. Also, this yarn is really the softest thing ever, so as long as it doesn't tickle my nose too much, it'll be lovely to have it close to my face to snuggle into *laughs*
I also cast on using the Noro I bought as a cheering up yarn. I deliberately started each sock at a different point in the colour repeat, so they will be matching but not matching at the same time ;)
I can see why people have mixed opinions of this yarn, I think this will probably be the last time I use it, but we'll see - it depends how the socks turn out really!
As ever, if you want more lovely knitting and yarn along content, head to Tami's and Ginny's *smiles*
The mustard and terracotta look great together. The cowl will be very soft, I'm sure. I also like not matching matching socks. ;-) I never look for the colour repeat.
ReplyDeleteThe wool for your cowl is amazing..my it looks so soft, I would have to wear it to bed!!!

Love the idea of passing on kindness and signed up with you as my referrer.:)
ReplyDeleteYour cowl is so pretty and even through a computer screen you can tell how soft it feels.
Your cowl certainly looks yummy. I want to bury my face in it!
ReplyDeleteI've never used Noro before, what's making you unsure of it?
ReplyDeleteI totally get why you are unsure of Noro, it gets a bit scratchy. I love the socks though, and they will be so awesome with the random stripes.
ReplyDeleteLove your color combo on the cowl! Is the yarn shedding tiny fibers? I always end up sneezing like crazy when I knit with mohair.
ReplyDeleteI love the terracotta and mustard combo in your cowl!! every time I saw you knitting away at another cowl, I have an urge to cast on-- but I don't know which yarn to pick!! Thanks for sharing, and being an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat orange yarn looks so fluffy soft and warm!! I hope you love knitting with it :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great! I love the cowl with the stripes. I pledged:) Be sure to let us know when they reach the 100,000
ReplyDeleteNeither Noro or fluffy yarn are my thing, but I have to admit, your cowl looks awesome. I'd be sneezing within 30 seconds, but still. Awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI've signed up, on the basis that I love this kind of thing. It's a brilliant idea :)
I have a skein of Noro in my stash that I bought on from a Ravelry destash...I haven't used it yet but I'm not sure I will, either. What's the worst thing that happens? I have something that I don't like.
ReplyDeleteI've heard it softens up after washing but, never having used it, we'll see about that....
I've heard that washing noro with a little hair conditioner softens it right up. and the colors are so cheery!
ReplyDeleteI love your Noro socks. I have a few coordinating (vs. matching)pairs myself and always feel a little bit fun when I wear them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "permission" to not make 2 absolutely perfectly matching socks!!! That's one of the things that's hanging me up about learning to make them - even the 2-at-a-time method.
ReplyDeleteand I signed up to do a RAK for someone.....what a fabulous idea!
Yeah, I only tried Noro once, I'm guessing that the kind you are knitting with is single-ply, which can get very old fast. I had a lot of problems with the yarn curling up, hopefully you will not have to deal with that. I'm in love with the fluffy yarn!
ReplyDeleteNoro just feels so scratchy but someone in my knit night made a gorgeous shawl and it wasn't to harsh to the touch. I think it may be awhile before I spend the money on Noro.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the cowl, the colors are great. It definitely will be nice and soft and snugly.
Oh boy does your cowl look divinely s-o-f-t!!! <3! What a great idea to just do stockinette for yarns that would be insane to rip back.
ReplyDeleteI like how you started your socks. I don't understand ppl who are so anal about perfectly matching socks.
