Well, They Got Finished And That's The Best I Can Say About Them!

I have a finished project that I haven't posted about despite finishing it a couple of weeks ago... Well, by "finished" I pretty much mean "cast off because I was sick of it" *laughs*

Behold - The Noro Socks of Frustration and Disappointment:

While the colours are great, I don't like anything else about them *laughs* The yarn was awful to work with, thick and thin, it came apart in my hands at least 3 times, and just rough and unpleasant to the touch.

I haven't blocked them yet, but hopefully a soak in some hair conditioner will soften them up!

Because I got sick of them, they're really short and hard to photograph without looking weird, so I tried to take an arty shot...

*laughs* Not my best work!

When I split the ball of yarn into 2, I decided to wind one ball in a different direction to the other, so that I would get a kind of upside down mismatch...

It worked, but I gave up on them before I finished a full colour repeat. I tried but in the end decided that knitting something that I got no pleasure out of was a bad plan so I cast off early. And that was such a good feeling!

  1. Ah, I hope they do soften up. Noro is pretty but I haven't bought it because I don't like the feel of it.

  2. Oh that is a shame. I shall learn from your experience and never judge something by it's price tag again (I'd always thought Noro was something so special because I'd have to save up so much for it!)

  3. It looks like I'm not going to try Noro at all. I've seen it in the store .... loved the colours ....
The socks look nice, let's hope they will be softer after washing. Otherwise you still can wear them over a pair of socks. :-)

  5. I've heard bad things about Noro–similar stories to yours. Perhaps you could give them to someone (you're not that fond of) as a present.

  6. They look fine and I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Noro. But I bet those socks will keep your feet toasty warm :)

  7. I haven't used Noro, but I have heard enough about it to avoid it. I like the colors too, but I can see your frustration. I hope they still get worn enough to justify the time spent on them.

  8. I have a skein of Noro and I'm debating whether I want to make socks or not...I know people that love it and I know others that hate it. You fall into the "hate it" crowd.

::sigh:: Perhaps I'll just sell it in a destash...when I find it :)

  9. Props to you for actually finishing them! Usually when I hate it that much, the project sits in time out .... forever.

  10. I haven't enjoyed the feel of Noro in the skein so even the crazy colors aren't enough for me to get over its rough hand. I hope they soften up and keep your feet nice and warm.

  11. I have some of this to try. Although I have not been blown away by noro in the past, a friend insisted that it is good sock yarn so I thought I would try it. Might have to dig it out soon and start knitting, either I get socks or I get rid of it!

  12. Oh well at least they're very photogenic. And your right the colours are lovely just a shame about everything else.

  13. It's a shame that they were so miserable, because they look awesome. I always like things that go together, but don't exactly match.

  14. Ah noro socks, I know exactly what you mean! Hope they soften up after wet blocking. The "mismatch" is cute :)

  15. Oh wow, I remember these! Kudos to you on finishing them. While the yarn was a paint to work with, the colors are wonderful.

  16. Love those Noro colors, but that texture does tend to leave something to be desired. Washing does soften it up a bit in my experience.

  17. aw the colours are lovely but I know what you mean about noro. I knitted a bsj using some and whilst I loved the FO, knitting it was ghastly. Such a let down for such promising looking yarn

  18. They look beautiful! Too bad it was such a frustrating experience to knit them. I hope washing them softens them up enough for you. I don't find Noro itchy, but I'll admit that the only pair of socks I made with it hardly ever get worn because I can't be bothered to handwash socks....

  19. Noro is the kind of yarn you just want to use as decoration. (Piled in balls, in a rough-hewn wooden bowl.) :)
Sadly, no one I know enjoys knitting with it. The socks are super cute, though!

  20. The socks are really pretty. I know what you mean though. I feel the same way about my Noro socks and I never wear them...
